The Brooks Wallace Award is presented annually by the College Baseball Foundation to honor the nation’s most outstanding shortstop. The award is a tribute to Brooks Wallace, a slick fielding shortstop that played at Texas Tech University, from 1977 to 1980 and led that team to its first ever trip to the Southwest Conference championship.
Pitcher of the Year
The Pitcher of the Year will be honored during the College Baseball Awards Show on July 2 in Lubbock. The College Baseball Awards Show will recognize the top players in college baseball as part of the CBF’s annual celebration, which also includes the National College Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. 2009 marks the inaugural year for the Pitcher of the Year Award.
John Olerud Award
The “Ole” Award started in 2010 by the College Baseball Foundation and is given to the nations top two-way collegiate baseball player. John Olerud was named freshman All-American, All-American 1B and Pitcher, and Baseball America College Player of the Year. Olerud left a legacy of character and greatness in college and professional baseball.
Dick Howser Trophy
The Dick Howser Trophy is an award that was created in the memory of the late Dick Howser to promote baseball excellence and scholastic achievement in collegiate baseball.
Stopper of the Year
The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association introduced the Stopper of the Year award in the 2005 season to honor the nation's top relief pitcher. Before the NCAA regionals, the association picks up to five finalists for the award. The regular-season national saves leader is automatically chosen as a finalist. The winner of the award is announced just prior to the start of the NCAA Super Regionals.
Coach of the Year
The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Coach of the Year Award, introduced in 2008, is voted on by the NCBWA Board of Directors, and chosen from a list that includes all Division I conference coaches of the year and the coaches of the eight NCAA College World Series teams.
Wilbur Snypp Award
The Wilbur Snypp award memorializes longtime Ohio State sports information director and NCBWA founder the late Wilbur (Bill) Snypp. Snypp who was a noted contributor to the writers' organization, which was initiated in 1962 (and celebrating its 47th year in 2008), as well as an officer in the group. This award honors a professional for contributions to the sport of collegiate baseball.
Johnny Bench Award
The Johnny Bench Award was created in 2000 to honor college baseball's top catcher. It is dedicated to the former Cincinnati catcher Johnny Bench, who by some is considered to be the best defensive catcher in baseball history.
