Brooks Wallace Award

  • SCHEDULE RELEASED FOR AWARDS SHOW HONORS

    LUBBOCK, Texas
    — With the college baseball season under way, the College Baseball Foundation has released the timeline for watch lists and announcements for several of the awards presented at the College Baseball Awards Show.

The first watch list for the Pitcher of the Year, the Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award and the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award will be released on March 18, with a second watch list to follow on May 6.

The names of the semifinalists for each award will be released on June 10. On June 19, the names of the finalists will be announced at a press conference in Omaha, Neb., on the opening day of the College World Series.

All three awards will be presented to the winners on July 2 during the College Baseball Awards Show. Nominations for eligible Division I baseball players can be sent to awards@collegebaseballfoundation.org.

Other awards to be presented at the College Baseball Awards Show include the Dick Howser Trophy, the Coach of the Year and the Stopper of the Year. For more information on those awards and their watch list release schedules, visit www.sportswriters.net/ncbwa.

Beginning this week, the CBF also will begin recognizing weekly achievements in college baseball with the National All-Star Lineup, in partnership with Diamond Sports.

The National All-Star Lineup will recognize the previous week’s achievements at all levels of college baseball. Nominations for the All-Star Lineup can be sent to awards@collegebaseballfoundation.org or submitted online by visiting www.collegebaseballfoundation.org and clicking on “Nominate a Player.”

Since it’s creation in 2004, the CBF has been working with schools to honor and preserve the records and accomplishments of college baseball players by collecting artifacts from significant players and games. This memorabilia becomes part of a travelling exhibit for the National College Baseball Hall of Fame and will eventually become part of the permanent exhibits in the Hall of Fame Museum.

Representatives from all levels of baseball are encouraged to send signed equipment, media guides, pictures or any other memorabilia to Mike Gustafson, executive director of the CBF, at 1517 Texas Avenue, Lubbock, TX 79401-5138.
